Hi! I'm Lauren. I help nonprofits build authentic connections.
But I didn't start here.

When I was 7 years old, I wanted to be the President of the United States. I would make food free for everybody so that no one would starve.

When I was 10, I started writing practice campaign speeches.

When I was 13, I shifted gears and decided to become a political speechwriter. I wanted to support the movers and shakers who would make the world a better place.

This time, I stuck to my plan. I devoured the news, volunteered for state and federal campaigns, majored in government, and discovered I didn't like politics.

(Too stressful for me!)

But I still loved writing. So I started copywriting, mainly for small and medium businesses and California state departments.

But I still cared about causes. So meanwhile, I volunteered on the board of three nonprofits. I loved participating in my personal time, and it only reinforced the idea that I wanted more professionally. So I shifted again. A new career focus: supporting nonprofits that are dedicated to making a difference.

I love empowering organizations that support individuals and, through that work, lift up societies. We are all interconnected.

My career in copywriting

Over the past decade or so, I've written for clients ranging from a startup Etsy shop to the California State Parks Department, from a diaper bank to a chapter of United Way. (Check out my testimonials or ask me for my full client list.)

I love writing for nonprofits that make a difference in people's lives, whether that means training formerly incarcerated individuals for digital media careers or equipping families to participate in their children's education.

Your mission is distinctive. You're meeting a specific need, and you're connecting new supporters with new causes and new realizations. I've never worked with two nonprofits that are the same, even if they're advocating for the same cause.

My mission is to learn and discover what makes you stand out - and how that distinction reaches people on a deeper level. We'll work together to craft an effective approach that genuinely reflects your organization's mission, methods, impact, and personality.

Spreading the word about words
For four years, I also taught writing classes for grades 3 through 12 at an educational nonprofit. I developed all my own curricula, from Advanced Research Skills to Short Stories. I can find any information available on the internet and turn anything into a tale. I loved teaching my students to develop ideas thoughtfully and express them eloquently. I also served as academic dean, overseeing the teachers and the academic program.

My life outside writing

I grew up in Northern California, and I've lived in Sacramento as long as I've been a copywriter. I love it here - the rivers, the bike trails, the friendly people, and especially the food. It's not called America's Farm to Fork Capital for nothing! (Great, now I'm hungry.)

I have a wonderful husband and three adorable kids: a daughter who loves writing (just like her mom) and has artistic talent (nothing like her mom), and two little boys who are loud, rambunctious, and sweet.

All five of us love to read, whether it's Harry Potter, the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, or Winnie the Pooh. We love to crack jokes, bike, bake, and eat!

I also play the violin (I’m not very good, but I love it) and fantasy baseball (nerdy, but so fun—lots of research and strategy).
